Questions over how Saudi government will handle $100bn ‘corruption’ windfall

With the first phase of the anti-graft campaign now seemingly over, questions are being asked about what impact the settlements will have on government finances. Attorney general Sheikh Saud Al-Mojeb said on 30 January that the vast majority of the 381 individuals pulled in for questioning had either been released without charge or had agreed settlements to secure their freedom. Those deals have brought in more than SR400bn ($106bn)-worth of assets, but the figure could yet rise further as 56 people remain in custody.
