Qatari poet’s life sentence cut to 15 years

Mohammed Al-Ajami, the Qatari poet who was sentenced to life for insulting the emir, has had his sentence cut to 15 years. Known by the pen name Ibn Al-Dheeb, Al-Ajami was arrested in November 2011, and his conviction a year later attracted widespread international criticism. Some of his poetry praised the Arab revolts, and criticised Qatar’s monarch.
