Qatari ambassador returns to Tehran

In another apparently carefully calculated gesture, Ali Bin Hamad Al-Sulaiti took up his role as Qatar’s ambassador in Iran on 26 August. It suggests that Saudi pressure is pushing Doha to seek friends where it can, but also underlined Qatar’s resistance to pressure from the GCC-3. Qatar and the other Gulf Co-operation Council states recalled their ambassadors to Tehran in January 2016 after the Saudi embassy in the Iranian capital was attacked.
