Qatar: Typhoon deal signed with UK

In a move that surprised many in the defence industry, minister of state for defence affairs Khalid Bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah signed a letter of intent to buy 24 Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets from the UK’s BAE Systems on 17 September. The deal was signed during a visit to Doha by UK defence secretary Michael Fallon, who described it as “the first major defence contract with Qatar, one of the UK’s strategic partners… and the basis for even closer defence co-operation between our two countries”.
