Qatar: The mysterious Saud Bin Nasser

Issue 1038 - 09 Jun 2017 | 2 minute read

With great glee Abu Dhabi daily The National on 3 June re-ran a piece (apparently originating in Al-Hayat, a London-based paper belonging to former Saudi deputy defence minister Prince Khalid Bin Sultan) on ‘Qatar’s leading opposition figure’ Sheikh Saud Bin Nasser Al-Thani. The paper reported the sheikh was heading to Doha on a flying visit to act as mediator in the rift between Doha and its neighbours. The sheikh reportedly said he was invited by Emir Sheikh Tamim’s full brother Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al-Thani. He appears to have been talking to various media including Egypt’s Youm7 and announced he was preparing to launch a London-based party in opposition to the emir’s government.
