Qatar: Taliban links raise questions

Among the many complaints levelled against Qatar by Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain has been its hosting of Taliban officials. An office was opened in Doha by the militant group (which is not designated a terrorist group by the United States) in 2013; although it was closed soon thereafter, Taliban officials are still believed to be at home in the Qatari capital.According to Doha, the de facto embassy was only opened at the behest of then US president Barack Obama’s administration, as a way of developing a political dialogue in Afghanistan.
