Qatar: Russian defence deal

Doha has signed a memorandum of understanding with Moscow to allow for increased bilateral military and technical co-operation, in the latest indication of Russia’s growing military influence in the region. The agreement was signed in Doha on 25 October by minister of state for defence Khalid Bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah and Russian defence minister Army General Sergey Shoigu. The Qatari Ministry of Defence and Russian state-owned arms exporter Rosoboronexport signed a memorandum on military and technical co-operation, local media reported.
