Qatar: Opposition conference makes only a small splash

The much-hyped Qatar Global Security and Stability Conference went ahead as planned in London on 14 September, but the sparsely-attended event led by opposition activist Khalid Al-Hail did not land any fresh punches on Doha. GSN counted around 100 delegates in the Intercontinental hotel’s vast ballroom in Greenwich, south-east London, in the late morning, but there was room for many more. Also in short supply were Qatari opposition figures.
