Foreign minister Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman was in Washington in late March to attend the 22 March meeting of the 68-member coalition working to defeat Islamic State, chaired by secretary of state Rex Tillerson at the Department of State. While in the US, Sheikh Mohammed met Nancy Pelosi, minority leader of the House of Representatives; she reportedly praised Qatar’s role in fighting violent extremism. He also had talks with Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell and secretary of the treasury Steven Mnuchin.
