Foreign minister Khalid Bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah was in Tehran on 26 February, where he met his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif and other officials. At a news conference following the meeting, Al-Attiyah noted the formation of a joint working committee to “boost and activate ties and establish a free zone between both countries”. Qatar has been more receptive to improving relations with Iran than other members of the Gulf Co-operation Council (GSN 964/3). Syria is, however, an obvious point of difference.
