Qatar: Al-Kaabi appointed QP head

Issue 977 - 19 Sep 2014 | 2 minute read

Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, previously Qatar Petroleum (QP) director of oil and gas ventures, was appointed QP managing director on 9 September. This is a long-awaited move: the separation of the roles of minister and head of the state-owned energy company has been on the cards since at least early 2011, when Mohammed Al-Sada replaced Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah as energy minister. Joining the new QP board are two ministers appointed following Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani’s takeover in June 2013, economy and commerce minister Sheikh Ahmed Bin Jassim Al-Thani and finance minister Ali Al-Emadi. Sheikh Ahmed is now deputy chairman of QP, replacing Hamad Al-Mohannadi, who remains on the board.
