Qatar’s Sheikh Tamim ‘victim of hacking’, Doha cries foul

Simmering tensions between Gulf Co-operation Council states swiftly rose to the surface on 24 May, after Qatar claimed a statement on its official Qatar News Agency (QNA) website and others released via the QNA’s Twitter account were false and the result of hacking. The remarks attributed to Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani and foreign minister Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani – some (if not all) of which seemed plausible – were quickly reported by media outlets around the region along with criticism of Qatar.
