Progress on Kenyan geothermal

Progress is being made at three long-delayed 35MW geothermal projects at Menengai. Most advanced is Quantum Power East Africa’s scheme, which is close to reaching financial close, with financing from the African Development Bank being finalised. Orpower TwentyTwo’s project is further away, with changes to the shareholding structure likely in the coming months following changes to the technology that do not favour long-established developer Ormat’s business model.
