Path widens for US defence sales as senator lifts objections

US Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman Bob Corker has rescinded his vow to block any defence sales to Gulf Co-operation Council countries while the Qatar crisis continues. Announcing his change of heart, Corker wrote to secretary of state Rex Tillerson on 8 February saying that, as there is no prospect of the regional rift healing any time soon, he would no longer as a matter of course object to new sales.
