Opec: Research director move ahead of SG change

The Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec) director of research Omar Abdelhamid is believed to be returning to his former employer Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco), where he headed research and development prior to his 2013 move to Vienna. The process of choosing a new secretary-general to replace Abdalla Salem El Badri is now under way. Libya’s Badri had wanted to retire since 2012 but stayed on when Opec couldn’t agree on a new SG.
