Oman: Ties reinforced with US, Japan

Issue 1078 - 05 Apr 2019 | 2 minute read

Oman has updated its military framework agreement with the United States and signed a military co-operation memorandum with Japan, in further signs of the sultanate’s renewed interest in reinforcing its international defence ties, following its expanded defence agreement with the UK.The revised agreement with the US was signed on 24 March by Ministry of Defence secretary-general Mohammed Al-Rasbi and US ambassador Marc Severs. It refines a facilities and military equipment programme first agreed in 1980 and revised in 2010, under which Oman has taken delivery of two squadrons of F-16s and missiles for various services.
