Recognising Oman’s important role as a go-between in negotiations with Iran, US President Barack Obama had a telephone conversation with Sultan Qaboos Bin Said Al-Said on 6 April “to share details of the agreement reached with Iran last week over its nuclear programme”, the White House said. Obama had called the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE a few days earlier. In an interview with the Times of Oman published on 11 April, visiting US deputy secretary of state Antony Blinken praised Oman’s role as a broker that has played a crucial role in negotiating a peaceful deal between Iran and the United States and its allies.
