Oman: Sultan’s brother takes key defence role

Sultan Haitham Bin Tariq Al-Said appointed his brother Shihab Bin Tariq as deputy prime minister for defence affairs, among a slew of decrees issued on 9 March, including a big ambassador reshuffle.Shihab is a former Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) commander who previously served as adviser to the late Sultan Qaboos Bin Said Al-Said and chairman of The Research Council. With Asaad Bin Tariq also in government as deputy prime minister for international relations and co-operation affairs it means the three brothers all hold positions of varying influence.
