No direct impact, but regional unrest inspires domestic and foreign policy changes

Recent unrest in the region has not had a significant direct impact on the UAE, despite it being one of the least representative local polities. Thus, the federation formed in 1971 by the seven emirates of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras Al-Khaimah, Sharjah and Umm Al- Quwain, remains one of the region’s most stable systems.
