Oman: Jobless locals take to the streets once again

A series of demonstrations by Omanis took place in a number of towns and cities around the turn of the year, in a clear indication that the government has yet to get to grips with the unemployment situation. The protests formed outside the Ministry of Manpower on the outskirts of Muscat and at the ministry’s branch offices in Salalah and on the Musandam peninsula. In each case, the number of young men protesting about a lack of job opportunities was relatively small – the demonstrators in the capital numbered less than 50.
