Nigeria: Aba IPP commissioning “within three months”

Issue 275 - 12 Apr 2014 | 1 minute read

President Goodluck Jonathan is expected to commission Geometric Power’s Aba independent power project (IPP) “within the next three months”, project partner Infinity Capital Partners chairman Ian Greenstreet told the 4 April Nigerian Capital Markets Forum in London. The integrated scheme, which is building transmission and distribution infrastructure as well as generation, has seen its commissioning delayed by over a year. Aba is scheduled to be the first IPP brought on line since Shell’s Afam VI. Greenstreet said that, while the sale price of electricity at $0.14 for retail and $0.07 for wholesale is “competitive”, generation costs of N52/kW ($0.31) remain a hindrance to private power producers.
