Sheikh Nasser Bin Hamad Al-Khalifa travelled to the Chechen Republic on 3 October, where he was received by Ramzan Akhmadovich Kadyrov, controversial president of the Russian region. Also in attendance alongside Shiekh Nasser – who is Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president was Bahrain’s ambassador to Russia Ahmed Al-Saati. Kadyrov has developed robust links with a number of Gulf countries over the past decade, including Saudi Arabia and the UAE; he is a regular visitor to the Gulf and at times acts as a go-between for Moscow in the region.
