Namibia: Xaris given go-ahead for temporary generation plan

Mines and energy minister Obeth Kandjoze announced on 22 December that NamPower has been permitted to proceed with negotiations on a power purchase agreement with Xaris Energy for a 200MW temporary open-cycle gas power plant. A number of other options are being pursued with the aim of increasing generation capacity by up to 924MW by 2019 – comprising 70MW solar, 44MW wind, 120MW HFO/diesel, up to 490MW from imports and 200MW from Xaris.
