Issue 343 - 31 Mar 2017 | 2 minute read

Rehabilitation work has been completed on the Mavuzi and Chicamba hydroelectric plants in Manica province, increasing their combined installed capacity to 90MW. An inauguration ceremony attended by President Filipe Nyusi was held at Mavuzi on 27 March, and a similar ceremony is planned for the upstream Chicamba scheme, following completion of its upgrade in February. The work has increased the plants’ expected output to 316GWh/yr, helping the owner-operator, state utility Electricidade de Mozambique (EDM), to better respond to peak demand.
