More war games on the high seas

Issue 1031 - 09 Feb 2017 | 1 minute read

The United Kingdom led a four-nation naval exercise in the Gulf in early February. Exercise Unified Trident ran from 31 January to 2 February and involved more than 15 ships and numerous aircraft from the Royal Navy, the United States Navy and Coast Guard, the Royal Australian Navy and France’s Marine Nationale. It was the first major deployment of US forces in the region since Donald Trump became US president. Meanwhile, Iranian Navy commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari has said the Islamic Republic will stage a naval drill codenamed Velayat 95 around the Gulf of Aden and Bab Al-Mandeb Strait in mid-February.
