Al Alfia Holding, a Qatari company chaired by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Al-Thani, brother of Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, is moving ahead with a project it commissioned in 2013 from Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA), the firm set up by the Iraqi-born architect who died in March. The shape of the 70,000m2 hotel and residential property was inspired by the desert hyacinth (a yellow parasitic plant which flowers after desert rains) and will be built in Lusail City’s marina district. ZHA will work with Arup Engineering and Atelier Ten on the 38-storey project.
