A report by the House of Commons’ Foreign Affairs Select Committee which was published on 7 November has strongly criticised the UK government over its approach to ‘political Islam’ and Al-Ikhwan Al-Muslimeen (the Muslim Brotherhood or MB). In April 2014, then prime minister David Cameron ordered a review into the MB’s role and its impact on UK national interests at home and abroad. It was led by Sir John Jenkins – a 35-year career diplomat whose last posting was as ambassador to Riyadh and who is now the London-based International Institute for Strategic Studies’ executive director.
