Libya: Benghazi union threatens split from Tripoli

National Oil Corporation (NOC) subsidiaries in the eastern province of Cyrenaica will break away from the institution’s control if its headquarters are not moved from Tripoli to Benghazi in the next two months, according to local oil sector activists. The Benghazi head of the Oil and Gas Workers Union, Yousef Ghariani, has told oil and gas minister Abdelbari Ali Laroussi that NOC’s headquarters must move back to the city where the company was based until 1969. African Energy has spoken to other sources within Arabian Gulf Oil Company (Agoco) who support the plan.
