Kuwait offers guarded support for ‘Arab NATO’ idea

Kuwaiti deputy foreign minister Khaled Al-Jarallah has publicly backed a proposal from the United States to form a new Middle East Security Alliance (MESA), popularly referred to as an ‘Arab NATO’. Speaking at an event in Kuwait City on 11 October, he said “we have always welcomed this idea as we believe we are in need of such alliances in light of the challenges we face. We need a bloc capable of meeting these challenges.”
