Kuwait dissolves KTS board

Issue 993 - 22 May 2015 | 1 minute read

Kuwait’s Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour has dissolved the board of the Kuwait Transparency Society (KTS), accusing it of unapproved links with international organisations and interference in political issues. The board was notified by letter on 7 May that the ministry had appointed an interim board, consisting largely of ministry employees. A statement from the ministry said KTS had insulted MPs, and “drifted away from the society’s goals and internal bylaws”. One source told GSN parliament had been putting pressure on the ministry to take action, because of concerns the KTS – which had just celebrated its tenth anniversary – was damaging Kuwait’s reputation.
