Kuwait clamps down on Riyadh critic

Kuwaiti authorities have reacted strongly to televised comments by Abdulhamid Dashti MP in which he seemed to accuse Saudi Arabia and Turkey of supporting terrorism. Dashti told what Dubai daily Gulf News called a “pro-Syrian regime” channel that countries near Syria supported terrorism and should be targeted. The comments made on on 24 February prompted a two-hour discussion in Kuwait’s National Assembly on 1 March. Foreign minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Sabah said the government was “serious and determined” to take legal action against anyone who disturbed relations with Riyadh, Kuwait News Agency (Kuna) reported.
