Kuwait: Sheikh Sabah’s first cabinet thrown into dispute with MPs

The announcement of the new cabinet in mid-December, after a month of deliberations, has led to a revival of hostile political rhetoric between the government and members of the National Assembly (parliament), but few signs of positive progress. The previous cabinet was dissolved in mid-November amid a dispute between defence minister Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and interior minister Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah over allegations of embezzlement of some $790m from a Kuwaiti Army fund when Sheikh Khaled was defence minister.
