Kuwait: New Zealand diplomatic fracas

Issue 1043 - 09 Sep 2017 | 1 minute read

Kuwait has withdrawn one of its diplomats from New Zealand, two years after being involved in an alleged assault, according to local press reports. The case dates back to 18 November 2015 when police were called to an address in the capital Wellington in the early hours of the morning. A police investigation came to a halt last year when Kuwait rejected a request from the New Zealand government for diplomatic immunity to be waived. New Zealand subsequently asked Kuwait to withdraw the diplomat, who has not been named.
