Kuwait: Mission to Iran

Issue 1030 - 27 Jan 2017 | 1 minute read

Foreign affairs minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah travelled to Iran on 25 January to deliver a letter to President Hassan Rouhani about the prospects for dialogue between Tehran and the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) states. “There is a genuine willingness and desire to have normal and fair relations with Iran,” said the minister one day before his trip. “Opening a channel of dialogue and communication I think… will bring benefit to both sides”. Kuwait has previously acted as a bridge between Iran and the GCC, with Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah visiting Tehran in June 2014 (GSN 971/7).
