There have been conflicting reports in recent months about how Kuwait is planning to modernise its airforce. In May, Reuters reported that a $3bn deal to buy 28 Boeing F/A-18 E/F Super Hornets was imminent, while on 4 June, The Wall Street Journal said Kuwait was in talks with Italy to buy up to 28 Eurofighter jets. Industry press also reported that talks between Kuwait, the Italian defence ministry, the Italian air force and Alenia Aermacchi, a Eurofighter partner company that has been leading attempts to market the jets to Kuwait, began on 31 May, and that Kuwait was looking at acquiring two squadrons, plus training and logistics.
