Kuwait: Another budget deficit in 2017/18

Finance minister Nayef Al-Hajref has put forward the government’s budget plans for the 2018/19 fiscal year, which starts on 1 April. For the third year running a deficit is forecast. The plans, announced on 29 January, include estimated expenditure of KD20bn ($66.6bn), 73% of which will go on wages and subsidies. KD2.5bn is to be spent on development projects, including road, airport and power generation schemes.
