The appeals court on 1 February acquitted Sheikh Ahmed Al-Fahad Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah of charges of casting doubt on judicial integrity, insulting the public prosecutor and inciting against public order – all in one local television interview. FIFA executive committee and International Olympic Committee (IOC) member, and Olympic Council of Asia and Kuwait Olympic Committee (KOC) president Sheikh Ahmed had been sentenced to six months in jail by a lower court. He denied all charges, claiming the prosecution was a personal attack. The case may now go to the Supreme Court.
