Kuwait: PM gets closer to France

Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah’s 22 October visit to Paris was marked by agreements for France to provide E2.5bn ($2.8bn)-worth of helicopters and other equipment from its already close military ally, as Sheikh Jaber held talks with his French counterpart, Manuel Valls, and other ministers (see Defence and security). Jaber handed Valls a letter from Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah inviting President François Hollande to Kuwait. Official media pointed to France’s “leading role” on the UN Security Council and the centrality of Franco-Kuwaiti relations for building regional and global security.
