Issue 994 - 05 Jun 2015 | 3 minute read

Kuwait’s richest businessman and former parliamentary speaker Jassim Al-Kharafi died on 21 May at the age of 75, reportedly from a heart attack while flying home from Turkey. Such was his importance that condolences were sent to Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah (to whom Jassim was said to be close) from rulers across the Gulf region; among the mourners at his funeral on 22 May were Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah and former prime minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah.
