On 13 October, President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi named Khaled Bahah as prime minister, ending weeks of disputes over who would form the next government. Bahah – who had been ambassador to the United Nations since June, and spent a few months as oil minister before that – fills a role vacated by the resignation of Mohammed Basindwa as Houthi forces were taking over the capital on 21 September (see main story).Basindwa, under pressure from the Houthis, said he was leaving to pave the way for a political agreement between Hadi and the Houthis, which did, indeed, follow later that day.
