Ketraco awards interconnection tender to NCPE

Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (Ketraco) announced on 19 October that it has signed a contract with North China Power Engineering Company Ltd for the construction of the Kenyan portion of a 400kV interconnection with Tanzania. The alternating current line will be capable of transferring 2GW of power. In Kenya, work will involve construction of a 96km transmission line from the 400/220kV Isinya substation – which will be expanded as part of the project – to the border in Namanga. The African Development Bank is providing $22.4m for the Kenyan portion of the project, with the Kenyan government adding Ksh439m ($4.3m).
