Kenya Power released its latest grid connection data on 20 March, showing that it had connected 5.9m customers, bringing Kenya’s grid access to 63% of the population. This brings the country close to reaching its 70% target for 2017 and sets the country firmly on track for universal grid access for 90-95% of Kenyans by 2020. Kenya Power states in its corporate strategy to 2020-21 that up to 10% of Kenyan households will be supplied through microgrids and other offgrid systems.
