Kenya: Oil trucked from Turkana marks production start

President Uhuru Kenyatta on 3 June waved off the first four trucks loaded with oil from the South Lokichar Basin, launching the Early Oil Pilot Scheme (EOPS) that will see production ramping up to 2,000 b/d later this year. The waxy crude oil produced during testing operations is being trucked in heated “tanktainers” to the Kenya Petroleum Refinery depot in Changamwe, Mombasa, for eventual export.
