Kenya: No successful bidder for Dongo Kundu

Issue 285 - 26 Sep 2014 | 1 minute read

The tender for the Dongo Kundu gas-to-power project may have to be reissued after no acceptable bids were received. The Energy Ministry received 36 expressions of interest and shortlisted ten candidates for the KSh130bn ($1.45bn) 700MW power plant and associated floating storage and regasification unit, but only two firms returned bids. Neither met the required condition of constructing the plant within 18 months, with both firms proposing to build the project over two years.
