Israel joins US Power Africa initiative

The US and Israel governments signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on 4 December bringing Israel into the Power Africa Initiative. Power Africa said the two countries would work towards reducing energy poverty and increasing access to energy in sub-Saharan Africa through partnerships between private enterprise, African governments and foreign assistance.The MoU comes amid Israeli efforts to improve relations with African states that have included a visit by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda and Ethiopia in July 2016, and to a West African summit in Liberia in June.
