Iraqi Kurdistan: Independence push continues

Iraqi Kurdish independence from Baghdad is a matter of “not if but when”, US Defense Intelligence Agency director Lieutenant General Vincent Stewart told the Senate Armed Services Committee on 23 May. While the remarks do not signal a change in US policy, it does offer an insight into current thinking in Washington.An independence referendum is planned by Kurdish leaders for later this year.
