Iraq-US strategic talks as Fouad Hussein takes over at MFA

Former finance minister Fouad Hussein has been appointed foreign minister by Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi; a formal handover ceremony tok place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 7 June. Since then Hussein has fielded congratulatory phone calls from regional counterparts including Bahrain’s Abdullatif Al-Zayani, Iran’s Mohammad Javid Zarif, Kuwait’s Sheikh Ahmed Nasser Al-Muhammad Al-Sabah (who also travelled to Baghdad on 14 June for talks) and Saudi Arabia Prince’s Faisal Bin Farhan, as well as Jordan’s Ayman Al-Safadi and Turkey’s Mevlut Cavusoglu.
