Iraq weighs up options amid oil turmoil

Among several gaps remaining in the cabinet of newly installed Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, the most significant is at the Ministry of Oil (MoO). Finance minister Ali Allawi has been handed control of the oil portfolio on a temporary basis, succeeding Thamer Ghadhban. In moves to tackle challenges in the industry, Kadhimi has already formed a delegation to negotiate amendments to the technical service contracts with international oil companies (IOCs) operating Iraq’s biggest oil fields in the south.
