Iraq signs major arms deals

On 9 October, Russia said it had signed arms deals worth $4.2bn with Iraq. Moscow and Baghdad issued a joint statement after talks between visiting Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki and Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev, which said the deals were agreed during delegation visits in 2012.
