The 19 June rocket attack on a site in southern Iraq used by international oil companies (IOCs), including US supermajor ExxonMobil, dissipated any feelgood sentiment that followed the United States’ 15 June decision to offer Iraq another waiver on Iran-related sanctions – this time for 120 days.Washington’s move allows Baghdad to continue importing gas and electricity from Iran, a vital requirement as the peak summer period approaches.
